There’s no need to abandon your Android device if you’re tempted by iOS
7. Here I reveal seven ways to steal the cleverest new iPhone tools for
Android.
Get the iOS 7 look on Android
The flat cons and pastel colours In iOS 7 aren't to everyone’s taste.
When YouTube user Derek Coiling installed the new lOS on his iPad, his
young son Jack was heartbroken (bit.ly/ijack330).
But if you like the new look, which Apple describes as eschewing the
skeuomorphic panache of earlier iterations”, or if your just curious to
know what that means. Espier Launcher iOS 7(bit.ly/idroid330)
will give your Android a full iOS 7 makeover for free. The effect is
disconcerting. It really does look like Apple has invaded your Android
device. Your existing app icons are rnorphed into iOS 7 versions and you
can store them in iOS-style folders, Everything still functons as
before. including your widgets and shortcuts, so the app effectively
merges iOS 7’s looks with Android’s brain.
Get the parallax effect
Some love it, some hate it and others are made nauseous by It. The iOS 7 home screen
adds a touch ci the 3D experience to make Its icons float when you move the phone around, and this so-called “parallax effect" has been making some users seasick on dry land. For more on the science of this phenomenon, see bit.ly/sick330.. If you feel you can handle a bit at 1 motion sickness. iOS7 Lock screen Parallax HO (bit.ly/parallax330) brings the tilts, zooms and rolls of iOS 7’s parallax effect to your Android, along with an iOS 7-style lock screen and Control Center toolbar app. The iOS 7 Live Wallpaper 3D app (bit.ly/wallpaper330) isn't as slick, but it has some very pretty OS 7 backgrounds with optional parallax animation.

Get a passcode lock screen
Once you've installed Espier’s Launcher. there’s a whole family of
plug-in apps that you can use to mimic other iOS 7 features. For
example. Espier Screen Locker iOS 7 (bit.ly/locker330) lets you lock
your phone with an iOS 7-style slider and optional passcode PIN.
Once you’ve disabled your system lock and set up the Espier version (see
our Mini Workshop, top-right), your lock screen will be
indistinguishable from an iOS7 lock screen except that It’s . not
encased in an Phone. You can then customize the name of your phone,
change the Slide to unlock’ text to something else and, for an in-app
purchase. Customize the sound that your phone makes when you lock,
unlock or charge it.
Get the fingerprint lock (sort of)
Not even the cleverest setting-tweaks will let you recreate a bio-metric
fingerprint scanner on your Android phone (although HTC has Just
announced a new Android handset with a fingerprint reader). But you can
fool people into thinking that you have. Fingerprint Lock Screen
(bit.ly/finger330) and iOS7 Fingerprint Lock (bit.ly/print330) are
genuine screen-locking apps based around non-genuine fingerprint
scanners. Fingerprint Lock Screen is the most iOS 7-like, in appearance
at least, and we like that it says your name when you unlock the phone
successfully.
Get the Control Center
One of the most coveted features of iOS 7 Is the Control Center, which
appears when you swipe up from the bottom of the screen to give you
instant access to the controls you use most often: Wi-Fi, screen
orientation, music player, torch, and more. Easy Controller Control
Center (bit.ly/control330) adds this widget to Android a long with the
option to open It anywhere on your screen. The tool outshines its Apple
original because you can choose from an even bigger range of controls
to include, such as an auto sync switch, map app shortcut and screen
timeout settings. Espier has also created a Control Center for Android
(bit.ly/escontrol330). Like the Espier Screen Locker. it’s a plug in
that only works if you've got the Launcher Installed. As with iOS, you
can also choose whether to make the Control Center accessible from
within other apps.
Get iOS-style notifications
Espier Notifications OS 7 (bit.ly/not330) is another free plug-in for
the Espier Launcher. This one lets you see all your app notifications in
the style of iOS including red notification
badges (the dots you see on OS app Icons) or, If you've install led Espier Screen Locker iOS 7. banners overlaid on your lock screen. It’s quite useful for merging multiple notifications from individual apps. but other than that it’s just a slightly tidier way of getting your familiar Android notifications.
Get AirDrop, but better
Getting files on and off an iPhone or Pad has always been a pain, and Apple’s awkward tile transfer is well known even to Pod owners So it’s easy to see why the new AirDrop tool, which lets you share files wirelessly between your phone and your PC and with other users, seems revolutionary. But in truth. AirDrop is nothing to get too envious about. The superb free ES File Explorer (bit.ly/filex330) ach eves the same thing on Android devices. And while AirDrop can transfer between devices, even when they’re not on the same Wi-Fi network, that’s hardly new if you’re used to Dropbox (bit.ly/drop330). If you have a Samsung Galaxy S3 or later, the
built-in S Beam tool sends files to devices near and far (bit.ly/sbearn330). And AirDrop only lets you send files to another user with AirDrop for which you need an iCoud account and an iPhone 5 or above.
Android developers have more than matched AirDrop. Airdroid (bit.ly/air330) lets you take complete (and secure) control of your phone or tablet via your Desktop browser. You can send and receive text messages from your PC, locate and lock your phone or tablet when It’s lost, wipe its data remotely and, of course, transfer files without a cable. It was voted App of the Year by Android Police ( www.androidpolice.com), and its user reviews are the stuff of app developers dreams (our favourite: “It’s like WD-40 but in a software version”).
